Fair elections must be seen to be fair.

Many people are calling the 2020 American Presidential election a 'stolen election.'  There is reason for this.  There are numerous specific allegations of cheating in several different ways.  The fact that the Republicans did well in both the Upper and Lower houses of Parliament while the Republican president, Donald Trump, apparently lost soundly to Joe Biden, is an anomaly. It does imply something wrong.

Now it is, of course, perfectly possible that there was little enough cheating that it made no difference to the result. But the fairness of the election is not the only concern. It must be seen to be fair. A democracy does not work if the loser does not concede to the decision of the majority.

The Democratic Party never became resigned to Trump's election in 2016, and put as many obstacles in his path as they could manage, even fabricating evidence to have a lengthy and expensive inquiry into trying to show 'Russian Collusion' in his election campaign. When that finally failed, they impeached him instead, purportedly because he put pressure on the Ukraine, but really because they simply hated the man.

The self-styled 'elite',  along with the big majority of mainstream media, also hated the man.  His comments were repeatedly scrutinized for anything that could be twisted into something either stupid or wicked in order to attack him. An example is that he advised 'injecting bleach.'  He never said anything like that, of course, but I have heard it several times repeated as fact, even on what are supposed to be serious news stations.  Most people listen to what is reported, but when it is anything to do with Trump, one needs to go to see what he actually said, and not pay attention to what it is said that he said. The reporting on him is that bad. That biased.

With all of that negative coverage, otherwise sensible people have also begun to think of him as an utterly awful person. Many are so convinced that they think that anyone who does not condemn him out of hand must also be utterly awful people. Friendships, even families, have broken up over the issue.  The whole of the media, virtually every film star and pop star, the whole of the Democratic Party and even some of the Republican Party think him an entirely awful person.

He is constantly mocked and derided.

The Trump blimp

And this is why many of those vote counters and those in charge may have thought it a good thing to do when they manipulated totals - they thought that Trump was so bad that whatever they did to get rid of him was justified.

Various ways that the election may have been rigged.

Discarded votes and votes not counted;

I have seen several f/b posts that assert that they were denied the opportunity to vote because they were supposed to have already voted. Two of my own f/b contacts have stated that they voted in person, on the day, but when they checked (an online site) their votes were never registered. This might mean nothing, or it might mean that their votes were never counted.

There have been votes found discarded.

There was an account from a woman that she was seen to be a Republican voter, left to vote in a separate room, and her completed ballot put separately.

There was a vote counter who asserted that she simply put votes for Trump straight in the bin.  (It may have been a joke, of course.)

A software glitch

What is said to have been a 'software glitch' meant that thousands of ballots that were meant for Republican candidates were added to the Democrat total.

When discovered, that county found the lead had swung from Biden to Trump.  It was corrected in that state, but many other counties use that same software.

Backdating ballots so they can be counted as legal votes.

If a ballot does not arrive by cut off time, it is not a legal vote. Whistle blowers have claimed, at least one on oath, that they were instructed to stamp the ballots with 'yesterday's date.'

Late arrivals of large bundles of votes that were 100% for Biden

There have been several accounts of large boxes of ballots arriving in the dead of night. Like all of the above, it is hard to know how much truth there are in these accounts.

This, for instance. John Daniel Davidson, 4th November, 2020 -   ´Then, something strange happened in the dead of the night. In both Michigan and Wisconsin, vote dumps early Wednesday morning showed 100 percent of the votes going for Biden and zero percent—that’s zero, so not even one vote—for Trump.

And this - Attorney Sidney Powell says: "We’ve Identified 450,000 Ballots That Miraculously Only Have a Vote For Joe Biden”

Dead People voting:

It is rather a classic, this one.  On checking, certain voters were found to be no longer living.  One 'voter' would have been 170 years old.  Now that was a record!
'Fact-checkers' assert that there was only one instance of this found, and that it was simply the result of a typo.  Others say there have been hundreds, but nearly always, hundreds is not enough to change an election result. Compared to other possible fraud, dead people voting is probably not a big issue.  (Luckily, they never vote in person.)

Breitbart. 5 Nov 2020:

'There are at least 21,000 dead people on the state of Pennsylvania’s voter rolls,  according to an amended lawsuit filed on Thursday.'

All of these accusations are resulting in recounts, investigations and law suits.  The election has not been officially decided, even though media outlets  have nearly all 'called' it

The Trump campaign is filing lawsuits in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Georgia and probably two other states.  I have assigned further information on the investigations to a postscript since I deem them quite unlikely to succeed in overturning the result.

BUT

The election may have been subject to fraud and cheating generally. It is certain that some cheating occurred.  Whether it was enough to change the result, we will probably never know.

Without waiting for results of recounts and investigations and various law suits, the various media outlets have announced that Joe Biden has won the presidency.  Biden has claimed victory, people are celebrating in the streets, and certain particularly nasty people are even speculating on how to 'punish' Trump supporters.  World leaders are congratulating him, although some are holding off, pointing out that the election has not yet been finalised.

Biden is being referred to as 'The President-Elect,' and Kamala Harris is being referred to as 'the Vice-President Elect.'

Even though it is early days, they are acting as if it was concluded, and that Trump is acting like a silly toddler not immediately conceding defeat.

Kamala Harris, Joe Biden

Celebrating the defeat of Trump.

A lot of people are totally thrilled with the result as announced by the media, and have ignored the 'projected' part of 'Biden projected to win,' especially as the headlines screamed merely,  'Joe Biden wins the presidency,'  and similar.

Random f/b posts

'We are thrilled, Mr. President! This is an amazing feeling for so many people!'
'Thank YOU Joe!!!!!!! We love you and are so happy to have a true leader back in the White House!!!'
'Congrats, my president!!! I am so happy for you and Kamala! You guys deserve this! I've been crying tears of joy all morning.'
'Congratulations, Joe and Kamala! You have restored hope, decency, and the soul of America and the world.'

Their implication is that Trump was not 'a true leader' and that hope and decency has been absent under him.  Even Biden said that he would 'restore the soul of America.'   He is now calling for unity,  not apparently noticing that some of the Democrat Party are instead calling for revenge against those who have ever dared to support Trump.

If this election was stolen, then as far as I can see,  the steal has been successful.

It would create so much rioting to try and convince people that Biden did not win that I do not believe that any such attempt will be made.  It is said that the first thing that anyone does when attempting a coup is to take over the media and convince the population that it is complete and that there is no use in arguing.  In this case, the bulk of the media has always been on the side of the Democrats.  Fair or not, Biden has won.

What Trump said:

President Trump released a statement Friday about the election - https://fxn.ws/3530VbB

“We believe the American people deserve to have full transparency into all vote counting and election certification, and that this is no longer about any single election. This is about the integrity of our entire election process. From the beginning we have said that all legal ballots must be counted and all illegal ballots should not be counted, yet we’ve met resistance for this basic principle by Democrats at every turn. We will pursue this process through every aspect of the law to guarantee the American people have confidence in our government.”

.

Whether he lost the election fairly or not, Donald Trump is still president until the January Inauguration of Joe Biden. Until then, he still has a president's power.

He could wait a little longer until certain recounts are done and investigations concluded (or thrown out as the case may be)  but he is going to have to concede in order to avoid the enormous damage that a turnaround would cause if made now.  The Trump supporters don't seem to be causing any problems with looting and violence to indicate their displeasure,  but Biden supporters such as BLM and Antifa are quite capable of violence to almost the level of Civil war, especially in the big Democrat run cities where they've been given far too much tolerance in the past few years.

All that Trump can do now is his utmost to ensure that future elections are not only fair, but seen to be fair.

It seems to me that America does its politics very badly.  I have gathered that most voters are registered as either Democrat voters or Republican. It is not compulsory, but if you are not registered with a party, you cannot vote in what they call their 'Primaries,' ie, the votes that decides who will represent the party.  (You can also register as Independent or other party.)

But if you are registered, you are labelled, and that increases the divisions. A secret ballot is the ideal, but generally, America doesn't seem to think that important. It may be becoming more different in the last few years, though, as Trump and Trump supporters have been so uniformly vilified that it has given rise to the phenomenon they call  'the shy Trump voter.' That is, those who like his policies, fully intend to vote for him, but have met with such hostility if they venture to say so, that they keep quiet about it.

Elections need to be seen to be fair, and that means that avenues for cheating must be reduced.

  1. Election rules should be consistent across states and counties. They should not be changed at the whim of current governors.
  2. Only those who are eligible should be on the electoral roll.
  3. ID should absolutely be required, and every absentee vote properly verified.
  4. Cutoff for voting should be absolute.
  5. Investigations into possible fraud should be thorough and punishments severe.

If Trump can manage to influence future elections to be both fair, and seen to be fair, it will be a worthwhile last achievement before he steps down.

Postscript:  The various investigations into the allegations of fraudulent voting or counting

Brietbart, Joshua Caplan, 5th November, 2020

“Our lawyers just sent a criminal referral to AG Barr regarding at least 3,062 instances of voter fraud,” the Nevada GOP’s official account wrote on Twitter. “We expect that number to grow substantially. Thousands of individuals have been identified who appear to have violated the law by casting ballots after they moved from NV.”

Speaker Vos Directs Assembly Committee to Utilize its Powers to Review Statewide Election

Wisconsin.gov, November 6, 2020

Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) released the following statement about his request to the Assembly Committee on Campaigns and Elections and its chair, Representative Ron Tusler (R-Harrison).

“I am directing the committee to use its investigatory powers under Wisconsin SS 13.31 to immediately review how the election was administered. With concerns surfacing about mail-In ballot dumps and voter fraud, Wisconsin citizens deserve to know their vote counted. There should be no question as to whether the vote was fair and legitimate, and there must be absolute certainty that the impending recount finds any and all irregularities.

Michigan

By: Elizabeth Vaughn, Bongino, November 9, 2020

The Detroit Free Press reported that the Michigan state legislature held a joint hearing of the House and Senate Oversight committees on Saturday. State lawmakers “issued a subpoena to state election officials…requesting documents related to Michigan’s election process.” They will be investigating “possible election irregularities.”
